So, I was told yesterday that I was probably being moved up to 3rd grade. I taught 1st grade my first year and 2nd grade the past four years. Third grade is a big change--SOL tests, only teaching certain subjects, new people to work with, and the same kids from last year! It'll be a change, but if I have to do it, I will. I'm just worried with all of the new stress...
I'm sure you'll do a great job in third grade, but I can understand your stress. Change of any kind is tough, but moving from a non-tested area to one that is tested is stressful. I'm sure your summer will be busy as you plan ahead. Your administration must think you are doing a good job if they want you in a tested area, so have confidence in yourself. You may discover you love third grade!
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's just the thing. I don't have any of the 3rd grade materials except the pacing guide. Once I know for sure if I'm moving, I plan to look on the VA DOE website to get myself familiar with all of the objectives and look at some released SOL tests. Any other suggestions that you have, feel free to shoot my way!
ReplyDeleteCrystal I know I am not currently in the schools but when I in undergrad I was able to "test out" all grades. I went in thinking I wanted to be in the upper grades but I wound up LOVING the third grade. I know you'll do great; I hope you like it. Talk to the third grades teachers to get some pointers!
ReplyDeleteI think you will do a great job! I know when I changed from fifth to third I did not know what I was going to do but it has been good so far. I must admit that testing is stressful but having supportive teammates will be one of the best things to have. I know that being able to go to Wendy when I am stressed or confused about what I need to do has been a blessing and I hope you will have a teammate or teammates that you can talk to and are supportive.
ReplyDeleteYea, teammate support is crucial. I had a great team last year but I know one of them is staying in 2nd and one is going up to 5th. Not sure exactly who I'll be working with next year.
